With June upon us, the summer has finally, at last, arrived...!
Granted, I'm not a big fan of the heat myself, but that doesn't mean Kessa can't enjoy the season, right? Plus, I AM admittedly excited to travel around a bit more this year... I finally have some disposable income, so I figure I might as well. In any case! Here's personally hoping your summer's been getting off to a great start, and I'm looking forward to providing all of the content I can and getting more in touch with you all in the meantime! On that note, I guess this means Kessa's officially been upgraded to mascot status, huh? I know Carrie once held that spot, but at this point, I don't know... I'm kind of feeling this character for that position. Granted, that doesn't mean Carrie won't still make an appearance here and there, but what do you guys think, out of curiosity? Is Kessa a suitable change of pace, or do you prefer the ol' robot gal we've all come to know and love? Ladies and gentlemen - I am pleased to announce, at long last, a season-long focus on the development of our team's newest creation, Lament!
And yes, that's right. I said team! For those unaware, I've recently gathered a group of talented individuals from all over the world (literally) to form what we're lovingly calling Midnight Dame - a game development studio, and one I'm genuinely extremely excited to work together with in crafting new experiences for you all to enjoy! There's a lot to do, of course, and it wouldn't be reasonable to say we're anywhere beyond the alpha stages of development, but something like this has always been a dream of mine, so it is my sincere hope that you'll all come along with us on this journey for all it has to offer! Until the next update, all! Get ready, because we're in for a wild ride. Kessa! A new face to the ever-expanding lineup of random characters under my belt, and one I'm honestly really enjoying so far - so much so, that I've been considering switching my de-facto mascot from Carrie to her... Nothing's official, of course, but it's something that's been on my mind lately.
The result of some perspective and anatomical practice, I thought I'd take advantage of the opportunity to update one of my oldest and personal favorite characters, Evelyn. She's been used for a lot of smaller projects in the past, but nothing that was ever officially released, sadly. Still, I'd be more than happy to use her for something proper in the future.
Well, this is a bit of an interesting landmark piece - simply put, it's the first one I've ever done without first drawing a physical sketch as a base. It was done entirely digitally (using a generator for the actual character to make that part a bit easier.) This also, interestingly enough, marks my first time drawing a tie dye pattern - which surprisingly wasn't all that hard. Though, I guess in hindsight, that kind of design is messy by nature anyway.
Knowing me, I'll probably feel tempted to try and use her for something, but lord knows what exactly. Still, I like the end result on this one. I've never done any promotions like this before, but I know there are a good number of people who haven't even heard of this game, let alone played it. Seriously though, if you're into the Metroidvania style (a game where you explore this massive region - like a castle or even the large section of a planet) it's really worth checking out. The gothic atmosphere and the sense of discovery (alongside the vast array of abilities you gain while basically just running around) is more than worth the price.
In any case, the piece above is of Bloodstained's player character - Miriam. I experimented a lot with this one, but all things considered, I honestly really like how it turned out. At last, production of Project Lament has begun! Of course, this is still a fairly rough mock-up, but as far as the art direction goes, I feel like things are looking promising so far. Honestly, I can't wait to start putting this thing together in-engine and getting feedback from you guys.
And to Patrons, keep an eye out for special events and opportunities as things go forward! Welp, I definitely wasn't expecting to do this...
So, long story short, I recently got in touch with my inner Sonic fan again... And then Carrie came to mind... And this somehow became the end result. Heck though, for my first time drawing literally anything in a Sonic style, I have to say I had a lot of fun putting this together. Granted, I don't know if I'll make this an "official" version of Carrie or anything, but I think it's a neat look into what could have been. |
